And why, on a single chart, does the same index dive to 30 and climb to 70 within one decade?<\/p>

A word on the data<\/h2>

The studies are built by simulation. Tens of thousands of birth charts are generated at random, each a random date, a random time and a random place, then read by the same engine and averaged. It is the same idea a pollster uses: you cannot ask everyone, so you sample widely and let the numbers settle. For a broad cohort the sample is large and the average is steady. For a very specific slice, a single Lagna paired with a single Nakshatra, only a few tens of those random charts happen to fall there, so those particular cells carry a little honest noise and can wobble by a point between runs. That is why the pages lean on the broad patterns rather than any one cell.<\/p>

A handful of the charts<\/h2>

sixteen random draws from the simulation, read for the present year<\/p>

Born<\/th>
Place<\/th>
Lagna<\/th>
Moon Nakshatra<\/th>
Dasha now<\/th>
Index<\/th><\/tr><\/thead>

26 Jul 2003 · 18:34<\/td>
Tiruppur<\/td>
Capricorn<\/td>
Ardra<\/td>
Jupiter → Mercury<\/td>
49<\/td><\/tr>

2 Jul 1999 · 06:55<\/td>
Nashik<\/td>
Gemini<\/td>
Shravana<\/td>
Jupiter → Jupiter<\/td>
71<\/td><\/tr>

20 Aug 1973 · 01:56<\/td>
Tiruchirappalli<\/td>
Gemini<\/td>
Ashwini<\/td>
Rahu → Mercury<\/td>
64<\/td><\/tr>

28 Jun 1993 · 23:02<\/td>
Kalyan-Dombivli<\/td>
Aquarius<\/td>
Swati<\/td>
Jupiter → Rahu<\/td>
54<\/td><\/tr>

18 Nov 1981 · 01:02<\/td>
Ballia<\/td>
Leo<\/td>
Ashlesha<\/td>
Moon → Mars<\/td>
55<\/td><\/tr>

19 Oct 1995 · 18:41<\/td>
Hubli-Dharwad<\/td>
Aries<\/td>
Magha<\/td>
Sun → Venus<\/td>
59<\/td><\/tr>

28 Apr 1973 · 02:33<\/td>
Mumbai<\/td>
Aquarius<\/td>
Shatabhisha<\/td>
Mercury → Ketu<\/td>
46<\/td><\/tr>

9 Oct 1978 · 21:19<\/td>
Allahabad (Prayagraj)<\/td>
Taurus<\/td>
Purva Ashadha<\/td>
Jupiter → Mercury<\/td>
52<\/td><\/tr>

16 Feb 1985 · 13:39<\/td>
Vasai-Virar<\/td>
Taurus<\/td>
Purva Ashadha<\/td>
Rahu → Venus<\/td>
37<\/td><\/tr>

7 Apr 1996 · 07:15<\/td>
Jabalpur<\/td>
Aries<\/td>
Vishakha<\/td>
Mercury → Rahu<\/td>
46<\/td><\/tr>

18 Jul 1980 · 12:33<\/td>
Jabalpur<\/td>
Libra<\/td>
Hasta<\/td>
Jupiter → Moon<\/td>
59<\/td><\/tr>

1 May 1978 · 17:29<\/td>
Pune<\/td>
Virgo<\/td>
Shatabhisha<\/td>
Saturn → Rahu<\/td>
28<\/td><\/tr>

24 Jan 1993 · 07:50<\/td>
Ahmedabad<\/td>
Capricorn<\/td>
Dhanishta<\/td>
Jupiter → Venus<\/td>
63<\/td><\/tr>

28 Oct 1989 · 09:25<\/td>
Pune<\/td>
Scorpio<\/td>
Chitra<\/td>
Jupiter → Moon<\/td>
64<\/td><\/tr>

6 Sep 1990 · 13:23<\/td>
Lucknow<\/td>
Scorpio<\/td>
Uttara Bhadrapada<\/td>
Ketu → Rahu<\/td>
33<\/td><\/tr>

18 Dec 1994 · 13:08<\/td>
Vijayawada<\/td>
Pisces<\/td>
Mrigashira<\/td>
Jupiter → Moon<\/td>
79<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>

Each row is one synthetic birth: a random date, time and Indian city. The engine casts the chart, finds the Mahadasha and Antardasha running today, judges them from the Lagna and blends the current transits into a single year index. Notice the spread, some land in the low 30s, some in the 70s, yet thousands of such rows average to the calm mid-50s seen in the studies.<\/p>
  <\/div>

What the index measures<\/h2>

Without giving away the full recipe, the index reads two things together. First, the running planetary periods, the Mahadasha and the Antardasha, judged from the Lagna by the houses they govern, their dignity and their placement. Second, the current sky, the Gochara transits, where Saturn's Sade Sati and the harder combinations weigh most. These are blended into a single number for the year, where 50 is the neutral middle, the higher end is supportive and the lower end is demanding. It is a reading rendered as a number, not a verdict on a person.<\/p>

One life swings, the average is calm<\/h2>

a single chart year by year, against its own ten-year average<\/p>

      <line x1="50" y1="20" x2="50" y2="200" stroke="#39342b" stroke-width="1"\/>
      <line x1="50" y1="200" x2="540" y2="200" stroke="#39342b" stroke-width="1"\/>
      <text x="42" y="150" text-anchor="end" font-family="system-ui,sans-serif" font-size="11" fill="#8a7c5e">30<\/text>
      <text x="42" y="60" text-anchor="end" font-family="system-ui,sans-serif" font-size="11" fill="#8a7c5e">80<\/text>
      <text x="42" y="87" text-anchor="end" font-family="system-ui,sans-serif" font-size="11" fill="#9db4c4">65<\/text>
      <line x1="50" y1="83" x2="540" y2="83" stroke="#9db4c4" stroke-width="2" stroke-dasharray="5 5" opacity="0.85"\/>
      <polyline fill="none" stroke="#c9a24b" stroke-width="3" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-linecap="round"
        points="50,146 104,112 159,115 213,74 268,61 322,63 377,70 431,63 486,56 540,69"\/>
      <circle cx="50" cy="146" r="4" fill="#c9a24b"\/><circle cx="540" cy="69" r="4" fill="#c9a24b"\/>
      <circle cx="268" cy="61" r="4" fill="#c9a24b"\/><circle cx="486" cy="56" r="4" fill="#c9a24b"\/>
    <\/svg>

the solid gold line<\/b> swings from a hard 30 to a strong 80 · the dashed line<\/b> is its single average, near 65<\/p>
  <\/div>

Why the study averages cluster between 50 and 60<\/h2>

Because an average is the swings cancelling out. Every chart has hard years and bright years. Blend a whole life into one figure and the dive to 30 and the climb to 80 meet somewhere in the middle. Blend thousands of different lives on top of that and the figure settles even more firmly into a calm band. The mid-50s is not a number anyone chose; it is simply where the highs and the lows come to rest once they are added together, sitting a touch above the neutral 50 because most periods are workable rather than punishing.<\/p>

Why a single chart still dives and climbs<\/h2>

Because a single year is not averaged against anything. Take your own decade. This year reads near 30, a genuine low, because a hard planetary combination falls inside the closing of Sade Sati, two heavy influences landing together. A few years on, the hard period has passed and Sade Sati has lifted, a kinder dasha takes over and the supportive transits arrive, and the same index climbs past 70. Nothing has been smoothed away, so the real peaks and valleys show in full. The flattening that tames a population simply does not apply to one person's individual years.<\/p>

The method, in a little more detail<\/h2>

For the astrologer who wants the bones of it, the year is read in two layers. The dasha layer is the larger voice at 85 percent, and within it the Mahadasha carries 60 percent and the Antardasha 40, the backdrop and the trigger. The remaining 15 percent is the live Gochara transit. That balance, the running periods in command and the sky as seasoning, is how I was taught by my gurus and the astrologers I learned from.<\/p>

Within the transit, Saturn is weighed most heavily, by sign from the natal Moon. Sade Sati, Saturn in the 12th, 1st and 2nd from the Moon, carries the heaviest toll, with the peak over the Moon itself the deepest. Saturn in the 8th (Ashtama) and the 4th (Kantaka) are the next hardest. Against that, Saturn in the 3rd, 6th and 11th, the upachaya houses, is strongly positive, the transit where patient effort pays; the rest sit neutral to mildly good.<\/p>

The nodes press where they are most tender: Rahu or Ketu on the 1st, 8th or 12th from the Moon weighs on mind and relationships, while Rahu in the 3rd, 6th or 11th gives a milder, ambitious lift. Jupiter is the chief benefic, fullest in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th, and steadying when it aspects the Moon from the 5th, 7th or 9th; but it is not benefic everywhere, in the 1st, 4th, 8th and 12th from the Moon it turns quiet and slightly adverse, a time to consolidate rather than expand. Mars is a lighter, occasional voice, counted only when it lingers in a sign: a small lift in the 3rd, 6th and 11th, a small drag from the angles and difficult houses, the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th.<\/p>

By temperament I keep to the softer edge on purpose. The natural benefics, Jupiter, Venus and Mercury, are never allowed to turn fully malefic even when afflicted, and the neutral resting point sits a touch above the midpoint, so the reading gives the benefit of the doubt rather than reaching for the worst.<\/p>

And the mooltrikona rationale, which I lean on and which the classical books teach: a planet speaks most through the house where its mooltrikona sign falls, not merely the houses it owns. So when a lord rules both an auspicious house and a difficult one, the side its mooltrikona sits on decides which way the period leans. By the same logic, a benefic that rules a trikona, the 1st, 5th or 9th, with its mooltrikona seated in that very trikona, is read as auspicious even if it also carries a difficult house, because the trikona, the seat of fortune and dharma, dominates. This is not a private invention; it follows the classical teaching that a graha gives the results of its mooltrikona, and that the trikona lords are the great benefics of a chart.<\/p>

The average is the calm sea. The single chart is the waves.
